ABOUT DR. HANDLEMAN

PortraitAn osteopathic physician with over two decades of experience, Dr. Paul Handleman has wide-ranging expertise in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems and chronic pain. Specializing in Prolotherapy, he has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of structural disorders with a broad variety of manual and medical techniques, including acupuncture.

Dr. Handleman maintains a private practice of Prolotherapy, pain management, and osteopathic medicine in Corte Madera, California. He is on active medical staff at the Kentfield Rehabilitation & Specialty Hospital in Kentfield, California. He is a Qualified Medical Examiner (QME).

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

TrainingDr. Handleman graduated from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. His medical career began in family medicine with an emphasis on musculoskeletal problems and osteopathic manipulative treatment. In 1993, he began treating work-related injuries, which he continues to this day. He established a specialized practice in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems and chronic pain in 1995.

In 2003, Dr. Handleman became interested in the field of Prolotherapy, a treatment that was popularized in the 1950's by Dr. George Hackett. He traveled to Honduras in 2004 with the Hackett-Hemwall Foundation to participate in a Prolotherapy training and medical mission. He returned on a yearly basis for two weeks of intensive Prolotherapy training and missionary medical work. He subsequently returned for three additional years as a Prolotherapy instructor.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

With the exception of Prolotherapy, the medical services we offer can typically be billed to insurance. Please check with our office to determine if we participate in your health plan.

Prolotherapy is not a covered service under Medicare or insurance plans, and physicians are therefore not allowed to bill insurance companies for Prolotherapy. Patients must pay for Prolotherapy directly (cash, check, or credit card). Dr. Handleman does not participate in Medicare or Medicaid. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, you must sign a waiver acknowledging that these services will not be covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
